Yeni oyunumuzun ismi, Modern Warfare 2. Artık Infinity Ward'ın geliştirdiği yapımlarda "Call of Duty" ibaresinin yer alması düşünülmüyor. Konuya gelirsek, ilk Modern Warfare'da yaşanan olayların ardından birkaç yıl geçmiştir. Imran Zakhaev'in öldürülmesinin sonrasında bazı gelişmeler yaşanır. Vladimir Makarov isimli bir Rus, hem intikam almak, hem de yarım kalan nükleer faaliyetleri tamamlamak için harekete geçer. Bunun büyük bir tehlike unsuru olduğunu fark eden güvenlik güçleri, oluşturulan "Task Force 141" isimli özel bir timi bölgeye gönderir. İlk oyunda olduğu gibi yeni yapımda da alternatif gerçeklikte bir senaryo bulunuyor. Ekipte yer alan Gary "Roach" Sanderson isimli bir acemiyi kontrol ediyoruz ve yanımızda, ilk maceradan da tanıyacağımız Soap MacTavis kıdemli bir asker olarak yer alıyor.
