10 History of Tatars in Japan - Japonyada Turklerin Tarihi

Episode 10
Finaly in the summer of 1945 Red Army entered Machuria. Japan lost the war. Russians arrested nationalist Tatars and sent them to concentration camps for heavy labor for at least ten years. Parents of the Proffesor Nadir Devlet talking in the clip were among them. Those who survived these camps were then exiled to Siberia.
In 1950 North Korea, with support from Soviet Union, declared war to South Korea. United Nations asked member states to help the South. USA decided to join this international force by sending its army unit under control of General Mc Arthur. Turkish government as well decided to send a unit of 4500 soldiers under the command of General Tahsin Yazici. First Turkish troops arrived in Korea on 19th October 1950. During the following three years Turkey sent troops to Korea 3 times. 721 Turkish soldiers lost their lives in Korea, and 2147 more were wounded. With 234 p.o.w. and 175 missing soldiers Turkey had one of the biggest losses among participating forces. Some wounded soldiers were sent to Japan, to hospitals in Kobe and Tokyo. Tatar community in these cities rushed to hospitals to help Turkish soldiers. They were visiting the soldiers almost every day, bringing them food and helping for translations. The chairman of the Association of Turks in Japan Mr.Temimdar Muhit enjoys remembering a nice episode where one day in a hospital a Turkish soldier asked for a translator and so many of Tatars rushed to help him at once that the Japanese doctor requested that they help one by one in turn.
