03 History of Tatars in Japan - Japonyada Turklerin Tarihi
Episode 3
Japans developing industry needed more raw materials. This caused friction with China and Russia. Japans victory in the Russo-Japanese war in 1904 caused further turmoil in Russia. The October revolution in1917 changed the fate of Russia, but also all the Turkic peoples in Asia.
First immigration of Turkic peoples to Eastern Asia was through the Manchuria railroad constructed by Russia in 1903. First groups were not from Kazan but from Penzar area. They setteled in many cities of Manchuria, mostly in Harbin. As more people fled from Russia, in 1906 first mosque was built, and used as school as well. As the number of children increased by time, in 1917 a separate school building was erected. First Turko-Tatar publishing house in the Far East was also established in Harbin.
